Italian EuroCup 2014 Dongo by SUI470
Sunny day before the weekend attracted some sailors to practice the days before the race. Four boats on Thursday and eight on Friday had typical thermal wind from 8 to 14 knots and fun to sail!
Saturday, race 1 (8-10kn):
First start at 14:00 in early thermal wind. The Moths started first, heading left for the landmark and corresponding shift to tack for the mark. Same did the 15 boat Musto fleet. At the top mark it was Alex in front following closely by John, Roger, me and Dieter. Downwind exactly the same way as upwind, going for the rocky landmark and tack. After two laps still Alex in lead and John in front of Roger, bravo!
Saturday, race 2 (14kn):
Building up thermal wind but the way to get around the track stayed the same. It was hard to get boatspeed with the tricky, short Dongo-Waves. It was Roger first on the mark but still close racing with the first 5 boats. Roger knows these contidions very well and took his first win after three lap racing.
Saturday, race 3 (16-20kn):
During the starting procedure the wind build up and shiftet to the right. First leg was in strong 20kn wind. First time that a group of four to five mustos headed for the right corner of the course. At the top it was Roger, Fritz, Dieter an me for the leading pack. Downwind with 22kn gusts and scary waves was intense. Fritz and Thomas failed during jibing the boat. Second upwind it was a battle between Roger and me with winner Roger. I got Roger at the end of second downwind near the bottom mark but did a touch-and-go after droping the kite. At the finish line it was Roger, me and Dieter for the first three places.
Thank you Dongo for this beautiful event and saturday night dinner! We will be back next year...
